Wargame Special Model Color Acrylic Set

Shades for figures for tabletop games

Tabletop battle games make different demands on paint than a display-case figurine does. An army is painted by the dozen, it has to be legible across the whole table and it has to put up with a player picking it up every turn. That is why a palette built on saturated opaque tones suits, ones that will cover a large area in two coats and do not call for long layering of transparent glazes.

The properties of the Model Color line

Model Color is the oldest and widest acrylic line of the Spanish brand. It is made in a bottle with a dropper, the binder is water-thinnable and it dries to a matte surface with a fine grain, on which the shading washes that follow hold well. The pigment is finely ground, so the paint does not clog the engraving of equipment or the small emblems on shields and armor.

How to make use of the set

The quickest route to a finished unit goes through a colored base, one dark wash into the hollows and one dry brushing of the edges. Three steps are enough for a figure to look modeled on a gaming board. When you want to pick a commander or a hero out, add a coat more on him and take the highlights higher than on the rank and file; the difference between them will then stand out even at a distance. Before playing, we recommend going over the whole army with a protective varnish, as otherwise wear on the edges will come quickly.

Storage

A closed bottle with a dropper will last for years if you leave it standing in the dry and out of direct sun. Dried paint in the neck only has to be picked out carefully; the contents tend to be fine still. Never top the container up with water for good, as it is always only the amount prepared on the palette that is thinned.
