Warship Builder USS Cleveland is a plastic kit of the American light cruiser in a stylized rendering from the Egg models range of the maker Meng.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit from Meng's range of stylized warships. The hull is shortened and stocky, while the superstructures and the armament are enlarged, so the model comes across as a charming caricature of the real ship. It is not a scaled-down replica in a faithful ratio, and that is why the model has no conventional scale. The exact number of parts, the way they join and the contents of the decal sheet are given in the instructions in the package.
The Cleveland was the lead ship of the class of American light cruisers of the same name from the Second World War period. The class was among the most numerous cruiser series ever built. It was characterized by a main armament of 152 mm guns in turrets, heavy anti-aircraft armament and a catapult for reconnaissance floatplanes aft. It is exactly these prominent features that the stylized models take over, only in exaggerated proportions.
The build is quick and forgiving. Even so, sand the parting lines down, as they show on the smooth sides of the hull. Apply the base gray shade with an airbrush or a spray can in thin coats; caricature shapes take even strong highlighting of the edges with a dry brush. If the parts join without glue, mask the mating surfaces before painting so that no layer of paint gets into them. The wooden parts of the deck stand out when you set them apart with a warmer tone. The model is rewarding to put together with children.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
