White Paint Type

Gunze Gundam Marker White - a white marker pen with opaque paint

A white coloring marker pen with a pigment paint on an alcohol base. It is not a bottled paint, it is not a wash and it is not any other weathering product: the paint is sealed in the body of the marker pen and is applied directly with the tip. From a modeling point of view white is the most demanding shade in terms of covering: it holds the pigment with the poorest ability to cover a dark base, which is why patience and more thin coats pay off with it more than with other paints. The manufacturer is the Japanese firm Gunze and the marker pen belongs to the Gundam Marker line.

Use

• Shake the marker pen before use and work the tip in on an offcut of plastic; white needs the tip to be well saturated.
• Count on two to three thin coats. A heavy coat creates bumps on the surface and marks left by the stroke of the tip.
• Let the paint dry completely between coats, otherwise the tip will pull the lower coat away.
• For touch-ups after nipping the sprue gates off, apply the paint in dabs, not in strokes: it blends into the surrounding area less conspicuously.
• Do not press on the tip. Pressure forces too much paint out of it and the area is flooded.
