Eight shades aimed at fur, hide and woodland beasts: from a dirty white through three browns to a sienna, completed by two washes.

Animals and beasts of the deep forest differ from knightly figures in that nothing on them shines. Their coloring is made by graded browns, earthy tones blown in and light patches on the belly or the muzzle. The eight bottles here follow exactly that logic and offer a whole range of them side by side.
The lightest position is held by Off-White for the underside of the body, the claws and the teeth, and it is followed by Khaki as a dry grassy tone. The brown line is then built by the three Filthy Brown, Parasite Brown and Beasty Brown, each a step deeper, and completed by the warm Heavy Sienna for more rust-colored fur. The work is finished by the washes Umber Wash and Black Wash.
Where the shades come into their own
Three brown shades side by side make it possible to build a transition without mixing: the darkest goes into the depth of the fur, the middle one makes the base and the lightest is drawn with a dry brush across the raised places. The umber wash then ties the whole surface together, and the black one suits only the deepest places, so that the animal does not turn gray. Because the tones are deliberately muted, they also take rougher techniques well, such as stippling or drawing a brush along the fur against its direction, which give the surface texture. The light tone is worth saving, because it is what settles where a viewer's eye falls first.
