XC01 Diamond Silver is a silver paint from the Gunze Mr.Color range. The XC code groups shades named after precious stones, and this one too is above all a showy shade: the silver in it is carried by fine reflective particles, which give the paint its sheen and at the same time dictate how it has to be handled.
On models, silver is used on the natural metal surfaces of aircraft, on wheel disks, exhausts and outlets, on small metal accessories and on the surfaces of robot kits. It also serves well as a base for chipping: the painted area is covered with the base shade and, once that has dried, it is carefully rubbed away in the exposed spots, so that the metal comes out from underneath.
Stir the contents really thoroughly, as the reflective particles settle faster than ordinary pigment. The base has to be smooth, because on a rough surface the particles settle unevenly and the area will be blotchy. Apply thin, even coats and do not go over a finished area again with a brush: the particles line up with the stroke and the mark stays visible. A dried metallic layer is sensitive to abrasion and to masking tape, so protect it with a coat of clear varnish before the next steps.
The package holds only the jar of paint. The model, thinner, brushes and an airbrush are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
