Six lacquer shades for the Soviet carrier-based vertical take-off aircraft Yak-38 and its modernized 38M version, including the blues of the fuselage, the white and the grays of the undersurfaces.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Yak-38 was the only production combat aircraft of the Soviet Navy that managed without a take-off run. It took off and landed vertically thanks to three engines, two of which served solely to lift the machine, and its home was the cruisers of project 1143, that is the Kiev, the Minsk, the Novorossiysk and the Baku. In the NATO code it was given the name Forger.
Service began in the middle of the seventies and was demanding from the start. The short range, the small useful load and the sensitivity to high temperatures limited the machine, yet it lasted in service until the breakup of the Soviet Union. The 38M version was given more powerful engines and somewhat better performance in the tropics.
The set brings six bottles, which cover the whole surface of the machine as well as the small details:
The color specification of the machine was untypical for Soviet naval aviation. Instead of the usual earthy tones, the Yak-38 was given a blue-gray upper surface derived from the finishes of carrier equipment and a light underside, which dissolved it against the sky when seen from below. The combination of two blues on the upper surfaces is characteristic of this type, and without the right shades a model never looks credible.
This is a lacquer, solvent-based range intended mainly for an airbrush. It is applied in thin layers and thinned with the thinner of the same range; a water-based thinner is not suitable for it. The reward is a very smooth and thin film that does not clog the panel lines or the fine riveting.
