The set from the British brand PERRY Miniatures holds twelve riders on horses in 28 mm scale. The horse armor is inserted separately, so you decide yourself how many animals will be protected and how many stay without plates. Seven shapes of horse heads are available, twenty-five pieces in all, a sheet of flags, a painting guide and plastic bases.
A man-at-arms in the saddle is the most expensive part of an army in the late Middle Ages. He wears plate armor, rides a trained horse and in battle decides matters where the enemy formation loosens up. The set covers the time when a rider still relies on the lance but just as often reaches for a sword, a mace, a war hammer or an axe. Cavalry equipped in this way was fielded by most European armies of the time, so the figures are not tied to a single state.
Leave the horses and the riders apart until they are painted: otherwise you will not get at the saddle and the harness with a brush. The parts are of hard plastic and glue with ordinary liquid cement. On an armored horse as well as on a bare one it is the sharp edges of the plates that stand out most, so lighten them with a thin stroke after the dark base. Paint the caparisons and pennons before you fasten them on, and unify the finished figures with a matte varnish.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
