This is not an airplane model but an aid for painting. The set is cut to fit the glazing of the MiG-21 MF kit in 1:48 scale from the maker Rye Field Model, and in the TFace version, which holds masks for the outer and for the inner side. The inner frames can thus be sprayed in the cockpit color, which shows well on a fighter with a sliding canopy.
The MiG-21 was the most numerously built supersonic aircraft in history and served in dozens of countries, Czechoslovakia among them. The MF version is among the most widespread: it has a more powerful engine, a dorsal fuel tank and the armament supplemented by a built-in twin-barrel cannon. The unmistakable marks of the type are the delta wing, the circular air intake with a movable shock cone and a canopy that slides forward.
Lift the masks off the sheet with pointed tweezers and lay them on a clean, degreased and dry surface. Once a mask is on, press the edge down with a wooden stick or a fingernail so that no paint can creep under it. Apply the paint in several thin coats; one heavy coat gets under the edge sooner than three light ones. Take the mask off as soon as the surface is dry to the touch, as after full curing it can pull the edge of the coat away. No residue stays behind, and the material can be moved carefully while it is being placed.
The set is supplied as self-adhesive masks. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
