Wing gun bays for the Spitfire Mk.Vb in 1:72 scale. A printed set for Eduard kits that makes it possible to show the weapons in the wing exposed.
Responsibility details are not available.
A printed resin set of gun bays for the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb in 1:72 scale, cut to fit Eduard plastic kits. This is not an airplane model but an accessory that allows the covers on the upper surface of the wing to be opened and what lies beneath them to be shown. Printing manages the thin walls of a bay and the small details of the weapon mounts, which would be lost in plastic at this scale.
The Spitfire Mk.Vb carried the so-called B wing, that is, two 20 millimeter cannons and four machine guns of 7.7 millimeters. It was the cannon armament that was the reason the Mk.Vb had conspicuous lengthwise covers on the wing and why access to the weapons was such an issue in service. The ground crew had to replenish and adjust them right on the apron, and photographs from wartime airfields therefore show Spitfires with an open wing very often.
Exposed bays have to be planned before the wing is glued together. Run the cutout along the marked lines, smooth the cuts and try the parts dry before you reach for glue. Resin is glued with super glue; do the sanding with respiratory protection. The inside of a bay looks better with a dark wash and discreet metallic drybrushing.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
