A cast resin set of accessories for the T-34/85 Model 1944 in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Black Dog. It holds separate parts of equipment, cargo and tarpaulins that are attached to a finished model. The base kit named is the T-34/85 from Trumpeter. The set is not a model of the tank and cannot be built without the base kit.

The real subject

The T-34/85 of the 1944 pattern was the peak of wartime development of the famous Soviet thirty-four. A new, larger turret took three men, so the commander no longer had to work the gun as well and could concentrate on fighting, and the 85 mm gun could threaten even German heavy tanks. It was built in enormous numbers and became the most widespread tank of the end of the war; with a number of armies it then served for decades after 1945.

Building and painting tips

First rinse the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-tooth saw rather than snapping them. Sanding is better done under water or with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); solvent cement for plastic will not hold on resin. A primer is needed before painting. The parts for 1:72 scale are very small, so it pays to paint them while still on the casting block and cut them off last. Soviet tanks carried their cargo lashed down with cord, and suggesting those lashings will bring a scene to life a great deal.
