1:32 USAAF Mosquitoes (25 Bomb group USAAF) is a decal set in 1:32 scale for the Mosquitoes that served with the 25th Bomb Group in American service.
Responsibility details are not available.
The package holds printed decals in 1:32 scale, not a kit. They were released by the Czech brand DK Decals, which specializes in the markings of Second World War aircraft. The subject is the American service of the British Mosquito: machines of the 25th Bomb Group of the US Army Air Forces. It is an unusual subject, because the Mosquito is associated above all with the RAF. The number of schemes on the sheet is not stated here.
The 25th Bomb Group operated from Watton in England and was formed under that name in August 1944. It was a bomb group by designation only - its main work was reconnaissance. For that the 653rd and 654th Squadrons used the Mosquito PR Mk.XVI with a pressurized cabin and flew weather reconnaissance over occupied Europe ahead of the bomber formations, night photographic sorties and daylight mapping. The crews came mostly from Lightning fighters. The American Mosquitoes kept their British serial numbers and from August 1944 received red tail surfaces for easy recognition - and it is exactly that detail which makes these machines a rewarding subject among modelers.
Apply the decals over a smooth gloss clear coat. Cut them out one at a time, soak them in warm water and slide them into place; a wetting agent will help the artwork settle into the panel lines. Soak the excess water up with a cotton swab and let it dry overnight. Spray the red on the tail surfaces over a white base, otherwise it will stay translucent. Finally seal the whole with a semi-gloss varnish.
This is a separate decal set. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
