Micro Applicator — a set of 100 Revell micro applicators

Disposable micro applicators from the German manufacturer Revell: a short stick with a small absorbent tip that gets paint, glue or pigment exactly where a brush cannot reach. The manufacturer gives a total of 100 pieces and four tip sizes, twenty-five of each: 2.5 mm, 2.0 mm, 1.5 mm and a thin 1.2 mm. Only three sizes are written out on the box; the slender 1.2 mm tip is in the set as an extra. According to the manufacturer the tip takes up only the amount of material needed and does not let it run down the part.

Use

• spot application of cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy onto a small part
• working pigment into seams, corners and recesses and settling it there
• touching up paint on edges, instrument panels and small equipment
• leading oil paint or a wash into engraved lines
• lifting the excess off the edge of a part before the paint dries

Who it is for

For anyone who works with small parts: aircraft cockpits, vehicle interiors, figures, photo-etched accessories. The four tip sizes also make sense because a fine line and a drop of glue under a stringer call for a different diameter. An applicator used with glue cannot be used again, so it is thrown away. With paints it depends on the thinner: water-thinnable acrylic can be rinsed out of the tip, while with solvent-based paints repeated use is not expected.

Safety: the applicators themselves are harmless, but the glues and thinners they are used with are flammable, and working with them belongs in a ventilated room. Paints, glues and pigments are not included in the package.
