It is a reference publication, not a kit. Valiant Wings Publishing presents the British Westland Whirlwind twin-engine fighter in it from a modeler's point of view: the structure assembly by assembly, the development of the type, the finishes and model builds. The second, expanded edition came out in 2021 and followed on from the release of the Special Hobby kit in 1:32 scale, the build of which is included in the book. The author is Richard A. Franks, the text is in English and the format is A4.
The Whirlwind was a twin-engine fighter with four 20 mm cannons concentrated in the nose, which gave it exceptional firepower for its day. Engine troubles and curtailed output meant, however, that only a small number were built and only two squadrons were ever armed with it. In the end it was used mainly as a fighter-bomber in attacks on targets across the Channel. It is precisely its rarity that makes every piece of good documentation a valuable resource.
For modelers who build the Whirlwind in 1:72, 1:48 or 1:32 and want the details of the cockpit, the engine nacelles and the armament backed by documentation, and for anyone interested in the Royal Air Force of the years 1940 to 1943. The reader should count on an English text.
