A plastic kit of the Fei-Yen combat robot in 1:100 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The real subject is a machine of the TF-14 type from the Virtual-On game series, and this edition, which the manufacturer designates as the Final 14 Special, builds the A/M+ form with the add-on parts of two configurations.
Virtual-On is a series of Japanese arcade fighting games with robots, whose first installment appeared in the arcades in the mid-1990s; the installment subtitled Force came out in 2001, and it is from its cast that Fei-Yen comes. Fei-Yen is the female character of the whole series and differs from the other machines on purpose: she is the fastest, slim and lightly armored, so she balances lower resilience with mobility. The individual configurations are marked in the series with a pair of letters according to the add-on equipment, and this box combines two of them. For a collector it is interesting mainly because plastic kits from this series appear only occasionally.
Robot kits have a great many small areas of color, so it pays off to paint in groups of parts while they are still on the sprue and to glue only afterward. Strong single-tone shades need a smooth base, otherwise sanding marks show through. Gloss areas gain depth after a gloss varnish, while matte details are better set off with a matte one. At the joints and the mating surfaces do not apply the paint thickly, so that the parts seat once assembled. Settle the decals onto a gloss base and go over them with varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
