An injection-molded plastic kit of the off-road Land Rover Series III in the station wagon body with a long wheelbase, in 1:24 scale from the German manufacturer Revell. The set comes in the Model Set edition: besides the sprues with the parts, the decals and the manufacturer's instructions it also encloses basic paints, a brush and cement for polystyrene. For this set the manufacturer states a six-cylinder engine assembled from several parts, a choice of right-hand and left-hand drive, and decals with several registration plates.
The Land Rover Series III is the last of the series that opened the history of the marque. It had a stiff frame, rigid axles at both ends and a body of aluminum alloy, which at the time it was created was a practical answer both to the shortage of steel sheet and to corrosion. The version with the long wheelbase and the closed station wagon body served as a working and a family car and reached the most remote corners of the world. That is exactly how people remember it from old travel books and from farms.
Decide at the start whether you will build right-hand or left-hand drive, because it affects the assembly of the dashboard and of the interior. Finish and paint the engine and the chassis before you close the body up. A Land Rover does not need a deep gloss; a satin to matte surface suits it far better. For a working look apply a thin wash into the panel gaps after painting and a dusty finish on the wheel arches and the underside.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. In the Model Set edition the basic paints, the brush and the cement are part of the package, other accessories are not.
