A sizeable kit of the German self-propelled anti-tank gun Panzerjäger II Für PaK 40, that is the Sd.Kfz.131 in the form of the early production series, in 1:16 scale. It was released by the Hong Kong brand Gecko Models in its large-scale range. The manufacturer states that besides the injection-molded plastic the box holds a resin gun shield cover, a metal gun barrel and photo-etched parts, a movable suspension and workable tracks. The fighting compartment is open and has a modeled interior.
The Sd.Kfz.131 was created in 1942 out of necessity: a 7.5 cm anti-tank gun with high penetrating power was mounted on the chassis of the Panzer II light tank, and the result was a vehicle that could threaten Soviet tanks. The armor, however, was thin, the fighting compartment open at the top and the crew protected only by a shield. The vehicles served mainly on the Eastern Front and became the model for a whole family of improvised tank destroyers.
In 1:16 scale every detail shows, so take care with the running gear and the inside of the hull before you close anything. Degrease the metal barrel and lay a primer for metal on it first. Let the workable tracks settle after assembly so that they hold a natural sag. The large area of the upper armor takes layered weathering: a filter, a wash in the gaps, dust pigment on the running gear and darker traces left by the crew around the gun.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
