An injection-molded plastic kit of the Swedish tractor unit Scania 164L in the top Top Class form in 1:24 scale from Italeri. It is a show truck, and the package matches that: it holds a decal sheet for two versions, a self-adhesive stencil, rubber tires and chromed rims along with other chromed parts. The manufacturer places the kit in the top, fifth difficulty grade and recommends it from fourteen years up.
The Scania 4-series went on sale in the second half of the 1990s, and the 164 designation carries the version with the most powerful engine the marque offered at the time. The top Topline cab specification gave the driver a high roof and two bunks for long-distance international haulage. Hauliers often had tractor units equipped this way given a special paint job and dressed up with chrome and lamps, and took them to shows — hence the term show truck.
There are a lot of parts and the build will take several evenings, so sort them out in advance according to the instructions. The cab has large flat surfaces: after filling, spray them with a filler primer and look them over under a side light. Apply the gloss lacquer with an airbrush in thin coats and let it cure thoroughly before the decals. Degrease the chromed parts before gluing and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) or with an adhesive for glossy plastics, as ordinary cement for plastic will not bite into chrome. Fit the rubber tires dry.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
