Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier fighter McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom II in the large 1:32 scale from the Japanese company Tamiya. Tamiya is known for the precise fit of its parts and for well-worked instructions, so even a kit this sizeable suits builders who are tackling a large model for the first time.
The Phantom II was a twin-engined two-seat carrier fighter, one of the most significant combat machines of the second half of the twentieth century. It has a distinctive cranked wing with upturned tips and horizontal tail surfaces angled down. The F-4J version was the fighter version of the US Navy with more powerful engines, a new airborne radar and an improved fire control system. Phantoms were used in Vietnam, flew with dozens of air forces and in some countries stayed in service into the new millennium.
In 1:32 scale the cockpit is markedly visible, so it pays to finish and paint it before you close up the fuselage, and to spend time on the belts and the instrument panel. Fill and paint the engine intake ducts before closing the fuselage. The gray and white US Navy scheme will take a sharp boundary on the underside, which you pull out with masking tape. Bring out the panel lines with a fine wash; in a large scale you have to work in smaller areas, so that the wash does not dry unevenly.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
