A set of two printed resin RBK-500 cluster bombs with AO-2.5 RTM submunitions in 1:32 scale from the Russian brand Quinta Studio. The box gives the count of two bombs. The manufacturer offers the set as a universal accessory for any kit and under a separate number also offers the version with an aerodynamic nose fairing. This is an accessory of underwing stores, not a kit of an aircraft.

The real subject

RBK is the Soviet designation for a single-use bomb dispenser, that is a bomb-shaped casing that opens in flight and scatters small submunitions. The AO suffix means a fragmentation bomblet weighing around two and a half kilograms. Because one dispenser of the five hundred kilogram class carried a very large number of these bomblets, a strike covered a wide area and was aimed at unprotected targets and lightly protected equipment, not at armor.

Usage tips

Bombs are painted off the model and fitted only at the end. After washing off the print resin residue, apply a thin base, then the main shade and finally a dark wash, which will draw out the seams and bolts. Do the lettering and the color bands on the body of the bomb with masking tape or a fine brush, not freehand. Under the pylons we recommend only fitting the bombs dry and checking whether they clash with the landing gear and the flaps, and gluing them only then. Do not glue printed resin with cement for plastic; it will not hold.
