1:32 RBK-500 AO-2.5 RTM (version with nose fairing) Cluster Bombs, 2 pcs (for all kits)

RBK-500 AO-2.5 RTM cluster bombs with a nose fairing, 2 pieces, 1:32

A set of two printed resin RBK-500 cluster bombs with AO-2.5 RTM submunitions, in the version with an aerodynamic nose fairing, in 1:32 scale from the Russian brand Quinta Studio. The box gives the count of two bombs. The manufacturer offers the set as a universal accessory for any kit and under a separate number also offers the version without the fairing. This is an accessory of underwing stores, not a kit of an aircraft.

The real subject

RBK is the Soviet designation for a single-use bomb dispenser: a bomb-shaped casing that opens in flight and scatters dozens of small submunitions. The AO suffix designates a fragmentation bomblet and the number its weight of around two and a half kilograms. The dispenser was aimed at unprotected targets and light equipment by scattering over a large area. The aerodynamic nose fairing reduced drag, so the assembly took less off the speed and range of the aircraft.

Usage tips

Bombs are painted off the model and fitted only at the end. After washing off the print resin residue, apply a thin base, then the main shade and finally a dark wash, which will draw out the seams and bolts. Do the lettering and the color bands on the body of the bomb with masking tape or a fine brush, not freehand. Under the pylons we recommend only fitting the bombs dry and checking whether they clash with the landing gear and the flaps, and gluing them only then. Do not glue printed resin with cement for plastic; it will not hold.

Who the set is for

• builders of Soviet and Russian aviation subjects
• modelers who finish off underwing stores
• those interested in aerial munitions and their markings
• anyone whose plastic kit lacks munitions or does not have enough

This is an accessory to a model, not a kit. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
