DSPIAE MSP-ES04 abrasive papers for round heads, 400 grit

Five self-adhesive abrasive papers cut to the shape of the round sanding head of the electric reciprocating sander. The 400 grit is the working grade: it levels mold seams on curved parts, ridges of filler and sprue nubs. On an aircraft fuselage or a car body it is the most frequently used grade of all, because that is where a seam runs across the whole curved face.

What to watch out for

The grit removes material fast and on a curved face it is easy to sand a shallow trough where the seam was, which shows up under the paint as a wave. Guide the sander along the seam in a smooth stroke, do not stop in one place and keep checking the face with your fingers; a hand notices a wave before the eye does.

How to work with them

• Clean the head before sticking the paper on; it will not hold on dust.
• Work without pressure; the reciprocating movement does the job on its own.
• Mask the surrounding detail with tape, as a coarser grain does not spare it.
• Replace a clogged paper; a blocked abrasive burnishes the surface instead of cutting it.
• Clean the part afterward, as the remaining grain would scratch the finer step.

The refill is for owners of the electric reciprocating sander with round heads who regularly sand seams on curved parts. The sander and the heads are not included in the package.

It pays to buy more of this grit than of the others, because it is used up fastest on an ordinary build. Do not breathe in the sanding dust from plastic and resin; work with extraction or at least with a respirator.
