About product

Japanese Type 98 gunsight in 1:32 scale: resin 3D print, three pieces

A detail accessory from the Czech brand Art Scale Kit, which has been producing under its own label since 2019. The box holds three pieces of the Japanese Type 98 aircraft gunsight in 1:32 scale; the manufacturer describes them as three different positions of the gunsight. It is a cockpit accessory, not an aircraft model, so you need the basic kit of your own.

The real subject

The Type 98 was a reflector gunsight used by both the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service and the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force. Instead of a mechanical ring and bead it projected the aiming pattern through a collimator lens onto a glass plate, so the pilot saw the aiming point and the target at once and did not have to refocus. It belonged to the equipment of machines such as the Mitsubishi A6M, the Nakajima Ki-44, the Kawasaki Ki-61 and the Kawasaki Ki-45.

Building and painting tips

Resin prints cut, sand and drill well, they are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and painted with ordinary modeling paints. The manufacturer recommends dipping the parts in hot water before cutting the supports off: the material softens and does not chip, and the hardness returns once it cools. Spray a primer before painting. Sand with your airways protected. The gunsight is a small part that is clearly visible in an open cockpit, so seat it and paint it before you close and glaze the canopy.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Japanese aircraft in 1:32 scale whose cockpit lacks a crisp gunsight
  • Modelers who build the cockpit open, so the detail is on show
  • More experienced builders used to working with small resin prints

This is a detail accessory. The basic kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a detail accessory for the cockpit, so you need the basic kit of your own.

Three pieces of the gunsight; the manufacturer describes them as three different positions.

It cuts, sands and drills like resin and is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The manufacturer recommends dipping the parts in hot water before cutting off the supports so that they do not chip, and spraying a primer before painting.

The manufacturer does not name a particular kit. The subject belonged to Japanese aircraft of the Second World War and the scale is 1:32.
