An injection-molded plastic kit of the AR-2 fire service special in 1:35 scale from the Ukrainian brand ICM. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The 1:35 scale is the home scale of military and utility vehicles, so the truck can be combined with the figures and diorama accessories commonly offered in it.
The AR-2 is a hose-laying truck, that is a fire service vehicle of special purpose. Its job is not to fight a fire with water from its own tank but to bring a large stock of hose to the scene and lay a long supply line from it, from the water source to the vehicles at work. The body therefore stands on a three-axle off-road truck chassis, whose type number appears in the name of the vehicle as well. Trucks of this type can still be seen with fire services in the countries of the former Soviet Union, and building one is rewarding also because it suits a civilian scene, not just a military diorama.
Start with the frame, the running gear and the cab interior, because once the body is closed up you can no longer reach them. Mask the windows so that no paint runs into them. Fire service red is a covering color prone to showing through, so it is better to go over a light filler primer and spray more thin coats rather than one heavy one. Leave the surface glossy under the decals and use a decal softener so that the sheet settles onto the engraving. Do not overdo the weathering; on a vehicle in active service a fine dust on the wheel arches and a more matte final varnish on the tarpaulin and the hoses are enough.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
