Elefant - Schwerer Jagdpanzer Sd.Kfz.184 with Zimmerit and FULL INTERIOR is a plastic kit in 1:35 scale from Amusing Hobby. It has a modeled interior and a Zimmerit finish.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit from Amusing Hobby in a form that, according to the name, offers a modeled interior of the vehicle and a surface with engraved Zimmerit. Both matter on a machine this large: the interior lets the model be built with the hatches open, and the Zimmerit falls away as a separate job, which on German equipment tends to be the most dreaded part of a build.
The Elefant came about from hulls that Porsche had built for an unsuccessful heavy tank project. Instead of going to waste they were given a superstructure with a long 8.8 cm gun and turned into a heavy tank destroyer. The vehicle had exceptionally thick frontal armor and its weapon destroyed targets at ranges the enemy could not reach. Its weaknesses were its weight, an unreliable gasoline-electric drive and, at first, the lack of a machine gun for close defense, which was added only after the experience of the fighting at Kursk. Zimmerit was a paste applied to the armor against magnetic mines.
Finish the running gear and the inside of the hull before you close the hull up, because you will not reach them later. The plastic parts are glued with a thin cement, the photo-etched ones with cyanoacrylate. Apply a primer before painting, and only then the camouflage. Build the weathering from the bottom up: first a dark wash into the recesses and seams, then a dry brush on the edges and finally dust and mud pigments on the running gear and the lower hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
