An injection-molded plastic kit of the German 2.8 cm s.Pz.B.41 light anti-tank weapon in 1:35 scale from Bronco. It is a standalone weapon on its carriage, not a vehicle. Bronco is known in this line for a fine parts breakdown, so the set offers a high level of detail but calls for patience.
The s.Pz.B.41 was a German anti-tank weapon working on a very unusual principle: the barrel tapered along its whole length from 28 to 20 millimeters and the projectile, with deformable flanges, was squeezed down inside it on the way out. That gave it an extraordinary muzzle velocity, and at short range it punched through armor nobody would have expected from a weapon that small. The price was a short barrel life and the need for scarce tungsten in the projectile, of which Germany had little; it was precisely the shortage of tungsten that stopped production. The weapon was light and airborne troops carried it too.
Cut the small carriage parts off with a sharp blade while they are still on the sprue and glue them with liquid cement for plastic. Assemble and paint the weapon separately from any diorama and make sure all the bearing points sit down on the ground; with a weapon on a carriage the most common mistake is for it to stand on only some of its supports. The tapering barrel is what is characteristic about this weapon, so sand it carefully after filling so that the taper stays smooth, and drill out the muzzle if it is not open.
