German 20 l Jerrycans and 200 l Drums, 1:35 — AFV Club

An accessory set of German fuel containers of the Second World War in 1:35 scale from AFV Club. It is not a vehicle model, but a set of small equipment for dioramas and for vehicles. The set covers two sizes: the 20 liter jerrycan and the 200 liter drum.

What the set is for

Both the jerrycan and the 200 liter drum are among the most common props in a military diorama: they lie by a field refueling point, stand on the bed of a truck, hang in brackets on an armored vehicle or roll around next to wrecked equipment. It is exactly these small things that give a scene its story and at the same time its sense of scale, because everybody knows how big a jerrycan is. The German 20 liter jerrycan with its three handles is moreover so well shaped that its form is still in use today.

Building and painting tips

• Paint the containers separately and place them on the finished scene
• Rust and chipped paint on the edges will give the containers some age
• Tell the fuel and water containers apart with a different shade
• A dark wash in the ribs of the drum will bring out its shape
• Add a small puddle of spilled fuel to a container lying on its side

Who the set is for

For modelers of German equipment in 1:35 scale and for diorama builders who are short of small equipment. Assembly is undemanding and even a beginner can manage it; the containers also serve as a practice subject on which rust and chipped paint can be tried out without the risk of ruining a whole model.

It is an accessory set, not a vehicle model. A vehicle, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
