An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M966 off-road vehicle in 1:35 scale from Academy. It is the Humvee-series form with a launcher for TOW anti-tank guided missiles on the roof.
The Humvee, officially the HMMWV, was an American off-road vehicle introduced in the 1980s as a replacement for the jeep and for a whole range of other light vehicles. It had an unusually wide track and a body slung low between the wheels, which made it stable and good across country. The M966 form carried a launcher for TOW anti-tank guided missiles on the roof; these are wire-guided, so the gunner only has to keep the target in the sight. A vehicle armed like this gave light infantry a way of threatening tanks, but it had no armor protection at all, which showed in later conflicts.
Finish and paint the frame, the axles and the inside of the vehicle before you close the body up. If rubber tires are included, fit them onto the rims dry and only once the rims are painted. The launcher on the roof is a conspicuous assembly, so build and paint it separately and fit it last. Modern equipment in service tends to be less dirty than wartime equipment, so go easy on the effects; concentrate the dust on the fenders and in the wheel wells.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
