A set of small parts representing the British Vickers heavy machine gun in 1:35 scale, from the Czech maker Plusmodel. It is not a vehicle kit but an accessory: the weapon can be placed in a diorama, set up on a vehicle or put into the hands of a crew. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Vickers was a British water-cooled heavy machine gun that came out of a design developed at the end of the 19th century and stayed in service with the British army through both World Wars and long afterwards. Its distinguishing marks are the cylindrical jacket around the barrel, in which the water circulated, and a widely splayed tripod. Water cooling allowed the continuous fire that air-cooled weapons could not manage, but it was paid for in weight and in having to carry water along.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry. Cut away the remains of manufacture with a fresh blade, level the surface and protect your breathing while sanding. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The metal parts look best over a dark base with a light polish of a metal shade, while the canvas belt with its rounds takes a lighter tone that breaks the weapon up visually. Assemble the tripod so that it stands on all its legs on the base.
