An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet SU-152 heavy self-propelled gun, the KV-14 in development terms, in the form built in September 1943, in 1:35 scale from Bronco. Focusing on one particular production month means the kit captures the details of exactly that period.
The SU-152 was built on the chassis of the KV heavy tank and carried a 152 mm howitzer in a fixed superstructure. It was an improvisation that the Soviet Union managed to put together with remarkable speed — only a few weeks passed from the requirement to the finished vehicle. The weapon was not an anti-tank gun, but it hit so hard that a heavy shell could knock out even the strongest German tanks by sheer force of impact; hence the nickname Zveroboy, meaning beast slayer, because the German tanks carried the names of animals. Only about six hundred were built and they were replaced by the SU-152 on a newer chassis, designated ISU-152.
The tall angular superstructure has large flat surfaces where every blemish shows; fill the seams carefully with putty and sand them back. Finish and paint the inside of the fighting compartment and the howitzer before you close the superstructure up. The large-caliber howitzer is conspicuous, so drill out the muzzle if it is not open. Assemble the KV-type running gear according to the instructions and check that both sides sit at the same height. Soviet dark green comes alive if you lighten it on the edges after spraying and add pronounced dust.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
