A set of printed resin tracks for models of the American Sherman medium tank in 1:35 scale from the Turkish brand Ginger Cat. For its track sets the manufacturer gives individual links with the guide horn reproduced, faithful surface detail and a resin print suitable for painting and weathering. This is an accessory to a kit, not a model of the vehicle; the plastic kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
Over its production and service the Sherman used a whole range of track types, because the Americans were constantly looking for a better compromise between durability, grip and ride comfort. Alongside rubber tracks there was a whole group of steel versions, and it is those that differ in link detail and in width. For a model that means the choice of track is not cosmetic: the type of track helps to establish which particular machine and period is being shown.
Wash printed resin tracks in warm soapy water before gluing so that the paint will hold, and cut off the supports with a saw or a cutting disc. Glue the links with cyanoacrylate glue a few at a time into longer runs, and leave the finished track hanging in the correct sag until the glue has set. The best approach is to paint the tracks off the model: a dark base, then a metallic shade with a drybrush on the edges and finally dust pigments from below. Wear a respirator while sanding.
