An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet S-51 heavy self-propelled howitzer in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. It is a new tooling with rich detail, and besides the plastic parts the box also contains a photo-etched fret. The multi-part lower hull tub allows the running gear to be captured faithfully.
The S-51 was a Soviet experimental self-propelled howitzer of the Second World War years. It combined the rugged chassis of the KV-1S heavy tank with the massive 203 mm B-4 howitzer, so that it could break up heavy field fortifications. The gun was mounted on an open platform with only a simple shield, without an enclosed superstructure. The vehicle passed its trials successfully but never reached series production and remained a prototype.
With vehicles it pays to finish and paint the running gear and the open fighting platform before the other parts cover them. Use liquid cement for plastic and glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush. Soviet green schemes come to life nicely with weathering: dark washes bring out the rivets and the engraved detail, and dust and mud pigments on the running gear and the lower hull give the model authenticity.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
