The Sturmgeschütz III Ausf. D (Sd.Kfz. 142) is a plastic kit of a German assault gun in an early version in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Sturmgeschütz III assault gun in the Ausf. D version in 1:35 scale from Bronco. Bronco is known in this line for a fine parts breakdown, so the kit offers a high level of detail but calls for patience and a steady hand.
The Sturmgeschütz III was a German self-propelled artillery vehicle built on the chassis of the Panzer III tank. Instead of a revolving turret it had a low fixed superstructure in which the gun was mounted directly into the hull — which made the vehicle low, inconspicuous and cheaper to build, but the gun could only be traversed a little to the sides. The early versions, Ausf. D among them, carried a short 75 mm gun intended for direct fire support of the infantry against fortifications rather than for fighting tanks; only the later versions received the long anti-tank barrel. Ausf. D vehicles were deployed in North Africa among other places.
Assemble and paint the inside of the fighting compartment and the gun first, before you close the superstructure up; on closed self-propelled guns that is the only way to reach the interior. Cut the small parts off with a sharp blade and glue them with liquid cement for plastic. Finish the running gear before you fit the tracks. The low silhouette of the vehicle takes a pronounced edge and rivet highlight with a dry brush; concentrate the dust effects on the lower part of the hull and on the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
