A plastic kit of the off-road truck Mercedes-Benz Unimog S 404 with a box body, in 1:35 scale. The manufacturer is the Ukrainian brand ICM, known for modern molds and cleanly engraved surfaces. The version with a box body corresponds to vehicles used as a signals, measuring or workshop station. The model is intended to be glued together and painted.
The Unimog S 404 is an off-road vehicle with drive to both axles, portal axles and a large ground clearance, thanks to which it coped even with ground where an ordinary truck got stuck. It was produced from the middle of the 1950s and became one of the most widespread light military vehicles of Western Europe, and of a whole range of civilian users too, from fire services to forestry administrations. Unlike the later diesel Unimogs, the S type had a gasoline six-cylinder, which gave it an untypically brisk character. The box body turned the vehicle into a mobile station; inside, depending on the fit-out, it carried a radio set, measuring equipment or workshop gear.
Build and paint the frame, the axles and the drivetrain before you set the cab and the body on them. On this vehicle the chassis is clearly visible, so the work pays off. Finish the cab and the box as subassemblies and paint them separately, so that the windows mask well. Fit the tires only after the base coat and emphasize their footprint with dust and mud. A single-color military green needs shading: lighten the upper surfaces, darken the undersides and suggest the edges with a lighter shade. Weather the horizontal surfaces of the roof and the hood more strongly than the sides, because that is exactly where dust collects. Then finish the wheels and the lower part of the box with pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
