A set of plastic figures of American drivers from the period 1917 to 1918 in 1:35 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM. According to the name it contains two figures. The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted, so the builder nips them off the sprue, cleans them up, glues them together and paints them. It is not a vehicle model in its own right, but an accessory that is added to vehicles and scenes in the same scale.
A vehicle on its own in a display case looks static and the viewer has no way of judging its size. A figure beside the vehicle takes on that role at once: it gives the scene scale, it sets where the front and the back of the action are, and it turns a mere model into a scene. The drivers in period clothing match vehicles from the end of the First World War, so they suit period cars, trucks and dioramas from behind the lines.
Sand the parting lines on the figures carefully so that the fine detail of the folds does not disappear with them. Glue with liquid cement for plastic and, with places that are hard to reach, consider painting before you join the parts. Build the flesh from a base tone toward lightened areas and deal with the shadows with a thin glaze, not with black paint. First cover the uniform with a base shade, then bring the folds out with a glaze and the raised edges with drybrushing. Unify the whole figure with a matte varnish, as gloss on cloth looks false. For areas that small, a brush is more practical than an airbrush.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
