A set of laser-cut leaves for a diorama in 1:35 scale. The leaves are cut to the shape of a maple leaf and are supplied in a green form, that is as leaves in full season. It is not a kit but a scenic material with which trees, bushes and the ground beneath them are completed.
Scattered foam leaves are quick, but on a close look it shows that they are shapeless grit. A cut leaf has the outline of a real leaf including its toothed edge, so even a single piece laid on the ground gives away what tree it is. In a photograph of a diorama that difference is fundamental, because it is the detail of natural material that most often gives away that this is a reduction.
Curl the leaves before gluing them, as a flat leaf looks cut out of paper. They are glued with PVA wood glue, which turns clear once dry, or with thin super glue applied with a pin. Glue the leaves onto a twig one at a time and leave gaps between them, because a real crown is never continuous. The shade can be adjusted with a thin glaze and the edges darkened, so that the leaves do not look monotonous.
