The AH-6J is a small and nimble armed helicopter used by US special forces units, associated above all with the special operations regiments known as the Night Stalkers. It derives from the light civil MD 500/530 series and serves for fire support, reconnaissance and rapid movement of a commando team. The unarmed sister version MH-6 carries soldiers on external benches. Thanks to its use in modern operations and its portrayal on film, for example in Black Hawk Down, it is an attractive subject for fans of the contemporary military. The machine can carry machine gun pods and unguided rockets on its side pylons.
The helicopter has a lot of clear parts in the glazed cabin, so it is worth masking them and keeping them clean, free of fingerprints and excess glue. The rotor blades have to stay straight and symmetrical and the rotor head is made up of many tiny parts, so work calmly and with liquid plastic cement. A primer undercoat and airbrush spraying are recommended. The military scheme tends to be matte black or gray; exhaust and oil streaks are brought out with a wash and pigments, and decals should go on over a gloss clear coat. In a display case the model stands out with the rotors set as if they were turning.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
