Culver PQ-14A Starter Kit: a 1:48 kit of the American radio-controlled flying target from Clear Prop Models, with two camouflage schemes.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Ukrainian maker Clear Prop Models has taken on one of the most charming sideline types of American aviation history. The release in the Starter Kit edition is conceived as an approachable project and, according to the marking on the box, offers decals for two camouflage schemes.
The PQ-14A came about during the Second World War, developed from the Culver Cadet light sports plane as a radio-controlled flying target for training anti-aircraft gunners of both the Army and the Navy of the United States. The largely wooden airframe with its elegant lines is powered by a Franklin flat engine, and there is even retractable landing gear: for a training target it was a surprisingly advanced machine. On ferry flights between bases a person could fly the type from a simply equipped cockpit, while in live use an operator guided it from the ground. The targets were built in large series and a number of them survived the war in private hands.
You will appreciate this small model in careful alignment: sand the joints and check them against the light. Spray the bold, uniform areas in thin coats and do not be afraid of lightening the centers of the panels slightly, so that the surface does not look like a poster.
The package contains only the parts for assembly; the model gets its finished look only once you have glued and painted it.
