Bronco Curtiss P-40C is a plastic kit of an American fighter in 1:48 scale with Flying Tigers markings.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Curtiss P-40C fighter, that is the Hawk 81-A2 export type, in 1:48 scale from Bronco. It is a new mold and the release is marked for the Flying Tigers volunteer group, which fought against Japan in China. The mold is of the same origin as the British Tomahawk from the same manufacturer; the decals and some of the parts change.
The P-40 was an American fighter with an Allison engine, an angular cowling and a large radiator under the nose. The P-40C version and the Hawk 81-A2 export type were among the early forms with lighter armament and without high-altitude supercharging, so the aircraft excelled in speed near the ground and in toughness rather than in high-altitude performance. That is exactly why the tactics of the fighting in China relied on a fast pass and a break away rather than on a turning fight with the more agile Japanese machines. The conspicuous shark mouth on the nose, which the group painted on the radiator cowling, became one of the best-known aircraft markings of the war.
According to reviews the cockpit opening on this mold is low and not deep enough compared with the real aircraft; anyone who wants accuracy should reckon with a modification or an aftermarket set. The fabric covering of the tail surfaces has more pronounced sag between the ribs than is actually the case on the real aircraft, and it can be eased by sanding back. It is better to paint the shark mouth through a mask than to rely on a large decal over the curved cowling. Lay the decals over a gloss base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
