A kit of the American Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet carrier-based multi-role aircraft in injection-molded plastic in 1:48 scale from the Italian manufacturer Italeri. The single-seat E version is the basic aircraft of the US Navy squadrons, and the size of 1:48 lets the armament, the landing gear and the typical angular air intakes come into their own.
The Super Hornet was created at the turn of the millennium as a markedly enlarged and reworked successor to the original Hornet. It is powered by two General Electric F414 engines, carries guided weapons on up to eleven hardpoints and operates from the decks of aircraft carriers, including folding wings for the hangars. The E version is single-seat; the type still forms the backbone of US Navy carrier aviation today.
Spray the low-visibility gray camouflage over a primer and bring the individual surfaces to life with light lightening of the centers of the panels. Dry-fit before gluing the fuselage, and protect the clear cockpit parts with a mask. Apply the decals on a gloss base and draw them down with a decal softener; finally even the whole model out with a semi-gloss varnish and add restrained weathering, as carrier aircraft are usually noticeably worn.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
