The Kinetic brand builds sets of present-day combat aircraft with a detailed parts breakdown and a rich selection of external stores. The manufacturer states neither the number of parts nor the number of marking options; check the extent of the parts specific to the reconnaissance form in the instructions.
The F/A-18D is the two-seat version of the Hornet, which the Marine Corps used as a combat aircraft and as a carrier of reconnaissance equipment. The form designated ATARS has, in place of the gun in the nose, a set of sensors that record the ground in several parts of the spectrum and pass the data on; the task of the aircraft is therefore to bring back an image, not to fight. The rear station is taken by an operator who works the sensors. It is precisely the missing gun and the revised nose that are the distinguishing marks against an ordinary D.
Finish the nose and both interiors before you close the fuselage up; on the two-seat version the glazing is long and once it is in place you cannot reach inside. Marine Corps Hornets tend to have a markedly worn surface: after the base gray shades put a filter on the surfaces, a wash in the panel lines and chipping around the arrestor hook and the flaps. Leave the sensor windows in the nose glossy and set them off with color, because they are the most conspicuous details of the whole model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
