The RM-2060 set from Rye Field Model holds four wheels made by 3D printing in resin. It is not a vehicle model but a set of replacement wheels for a model of the M-ATV in 1:48 scale. The main reason to buy is the shape of the tire: the wheels are printed weighted, that is with a flattened contact patch, so the vehicle in the display case looks as though it really were standing under its own weight. The manufacturer intends them for its own M1240A1 M-ATV kit, number 4801.
The M-ATV is an American wheeled armored vehicle of the MRAP class, and its huge tires are among the most striking features of the machine. The set represents the 16.00 R20 size with a deep block tread. Watch out for the sister variant: the same manufacturer also issues these tires in 1:35 scale under RM-1001. Compare the pattern against a photograph of the vehicle you are building, because the rims differ from batch to batch.
3D-printed parts are glued with cyanoacrylate (super glue); ordinary plastic cement will not bond them. Wash the wheels before building and cut the print supports away carefully; protect your airways while sanding. A primer coat is a must, without it paint will not hold on the print. Glue weighted wheels on in the right position: turn the flattened face downward and set the vehicle on a flat base until the glue cures. Do not paint the tire black; a very dark gray with a dusty cast looks better.
It is an add-on for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
