An accessory set in 1:48 scale with the Russian Maxim Model 1910 heavy machine gun, a water-cooled weapon that served from the First World War all the way into the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Maxim Model 1910 was a Russian heavy machine gun derived from Hiram Maxim's design. It is unmistakable for the massive jacket around the barrel: the barrel was cooled not by air but by water held in that jacket, so the weapon could sustain long uninterrupted fire. It fired the 7.62 mm rimmed rifle cartridge and was fed from a cloth ammunition belt. In the Russian and later the Soviet army the gun stayed in service from the First World War into the fighting of the Second, so it suits scenes from both conflicts.
The weapon was most often moved on a low wheeled mount with a protective shield, which let the crew drag it into position and open fire quickly. Lighter tripods and vehicle mountings were used alongside it.
This is an accessory in 1:48 scale, classed among accessories, ammunition and weapons. It comes into its own in figure scenes, on vehicles with machine gun armament and as a telling element of a small diorama, where the weapon alone hints at the army and the period.
Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and carefully sand the remainder so that the thin edges do not suffer. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint holds poorly. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts and check the exact procedure in the manufacturer's instructions. A dark gray primer with a hint of steel on the edges suits the metal surfaces, and the barrel jacket takes gentle highlighting with a dry brush.
The kit, figures, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
