A 3D-printed resin boarding ladder for a model of the MiG-29 aircraft in 1:48 scale from GINGER CAT. The manufacturer gives one piece in the package. It is an accessory for a finished model, not a kit of the aircraft; the ladder hooks onto the fuselage by the cockpit and the model of the aircraft is not included in the package.

What the accessory is for

A boarding ladder is indispensable on a modern fighter with a high-set cockpit and is noticeable on a model at once. It gives the scene scale and explains how the pilot reached the cockpit, so on an aircraft with the canopy open it looks natural. At the same time it is a part with thin sections and open gaps between the steps, which injection-molded plastic cannot render finely enough; that is exactly why resin printing suits accessories of this kind.

Building and painting tips

3D-printed parts are small and brittle: separate them with a fine-tooth saw or with nippers and level the remains of the print supports with a fine file. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); solvent cement for plastic does not hold. Before painting, spray a thin coat of primer, as a heavy coat would drown the detail.
