A Big Ed bundle of accessory sets for the Consolidated PBY-5A Catalina amphibian in 1:48 scale. This is not an airplane kit but a package of several separate sets that would otherwise be bought one at a time. This first part aims inside the fuselage: it holds sets for the pilot's compartment, for the rear part of the interior, for its ribs and stringers, and with them masks for the glazing. The manufacturer has designated the bundle for Revell and Eduard kits.
The Catalina was one of the most widespread patrol aircraft of the Second World War. The PBY-5A version was given retractable landing gear, so it could operate from water and from land alike, and it was precisely that which made it an all-purpose machine for hunting submarines, for long-range reconnaissance and for rescuing downed crews. The fuselage is roomy and visible inside through the large observation windows, which makes the interior the most important part of the model.
Work set by set and try everything dry while the fuselage halves are still apart. Bend the photo-etched parts over the edge of a ruler, glue them with super glue and paint them only once they are seated. Apply the masks onto degreased glazing and remove them while the paint is fresh, so that they do not tear the edge of the coat.
The bundle is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. The Revell and Eduard kits, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
