Aviaeology AOD48004M is a decal sheet with the markings of particular machines: Canadian Short Sunderland GR.III flying boats with squadrons of RAF Coastal Command, in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A decal sheet from the Canadian brand Aviaeology in 1:48 scale with the markings of particular machines, that is, with the codes, national insignia and serial numbers of Canadian Sunderlands. It is not a kit, but decals for a model you buy separately. The main distinction in this series is the version of the sheet: the manufacturer also issued a variant without national insignia (the part number with the suffix S) for modelers who want to use the roundels from the kit. Check the extent of the markings on the box.
The Short Sunderland was a four-engine flying boat for long-range patrol over the Atlantic. The GR.III version had a modified lower hull and served to protect convoys and to fight submarines. Canadian crews flew the type with 422 and 423 Squadrons RCAF in RAF Coastal Command, among other places from the base at Castle Archdale. On 10 March 1944, west of Ireland, Sunderland EK591 took part with depth charges in the sinking of the German submarine U-625. The crews flew patrols of many hours, during which the machine was both home and weapon.
A model of the Sunderland in 1:48 has large surfaces, so prepare a smooth glossy base for the decals and work in sections. Carry the large motifs onto a wet surface so that they can be moved, and press the water out from the center toward the edges so that no bubbles are left. Over rivets and overlapping panels a softener helps. At the end give it a coat matching the sheen of the real machine.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
