Aber 1:700 universal photo-etched railings in the 2nd choice form will edge the decks and walkways of a warship model with fine brass railings.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched set from the Polish maker Aber in 1:700 scale with universal ship railings. It is not a kit but a detail accessory usable on models of warships and civilian ships alike, whatever the nationality of the real vessel. The railings are etched from thin brass sheet, so the stanchions and the railing wires have a realistic thickness once converted to scale. The 2nd choice designation sets this version of the fret apart from the first variant of the same type of railing in the maker's range.
Missing railings are the most noticeable shortcoming of ship models in 1:700 scale — because of the injection molding technology, plastic kits cannot offer them at a usable thickness. The etched strips are cut to the outline of the deck, formed into curves and glued to the edge. A universal form means that one fret will cover the decks, the walkways of the superstructures, the platforms of the anti-aircraft positions and the gangways, and that it suits the building of ships of various navies.
Always try the strip for fit first and only then cut it; the rest of the fret comes in useful for shorter runs. Form the curves around a roller or the handle of a scalpel, and bend sharp corners in a photo-etch bending tool. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue in short sections, with the tip of a wire. Degrease the brass, spray it with a base coat for metal and paint it the shade of the ship — thin railings will take only a very fine coat of paint, otherwise they thicken and lose their scale.
This is an accessory photo-etched set, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
