Railings this fine cannot be moulded in plastic, but they can be etched in brass. Photo-etched parts at 1:700 are therefore close to mandatory in the most widely built ship scale: universal railing frets divided by navy, floater net baskets, extending accommodation ladders, anti-aircraft armament and sets cut for one named ship. Carriers are additionally served by etched deck aircraft, which read far better than the moulded ones.
At 1:700 etch separates an average model from a good one faster than anything else: add railings and the ship stops looking bare. Fine metal shows best above real timber, so consider a 1:700 wooden deck for the same kit.
