The photo-etched detail set 1:700 WWII IJN Heavy Swinging Boom from Flyhawk. The set replaces the coarse plastic heavy booms on the sides of Japanese warships with faithful photo-etched parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a photo-etched detail set in 1:700 scale, not a ship model in its own right. The set from Flyhawk is meant to improve a kit of a Japanese warship of the Second World War period and replaces thick plastic booms with fine parts of brass photo-etch.
The heavy swinging boom was swung out at right angles from the hull on the sides of a ship so that the crew's boats and barges could be made fast to it at anchor. Plastic parts tend to be oversized in this scale, whereas the photo-etched version offers the right thickness and a faithful shape. The set typically holds one photo-etched fret with the parts for building the booms.
Separate the parts carefully from the fret with a sharp knife on a cutting surface, clean up the edge and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. It pays to degrease the surfaces before gluing; once assembled, spray the whole thing with primer and paint it to match the rest of the model. The work calls for tweezers and patience.
This is an accessory, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
