This injection-molded plastic kit captures the A-7K version, that is the two-seat form of the Corsair II attack aircraft with a lengthened cockpit for two men in tandem. It is recognizable from the single-seat versions at first glance and makes a rewarding counterpart in a collection of Corsair IIs. The scale is 1:72 and the manufacturer is Hobby Boss.
The Corsair II is a subsonic attack aircraft with a single jet engine without afterburner, a large air intake under the nose and the ability to carry a heavy load of ordnance over a long distance. The A-7K version comes from the form intended for the land-based air force and was built as a two-seater while remaining combat capable. It served with Air National Guard units, where it combined the training of new pilots with the ability to carry out combat tasks. Only a few were built, so it is one of the least common variants of the whole family. The lengthened forward fuselage with the second cockpit is the main external difference from the single-seat Corsairs.
It pays to finish and paint the longer cockpit before the fuselage is closed up, because the glazing on the two-seat version is extensive and reveals a great deal of it. Mask the frames of the canopy with tape or masks, not with a brush. Paint the intake duct light and polish it so it does not read as a blind hole. Spray the camouflage schemes of the land-based air force with an airbrush and soft transitions, keep the weathering restrained and emphasize the panel lines only lightly.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
