The real subject

The Airco DH.9a, known among modelers by the nickname Ninak, came about through a reworking of the not very successful DH.9 type. It received enlarged wings and, above all, the American Liberty V12, which gave it the power its predecessor lacked. As a two-seat day bomber it took part in the closing stage of the First World War, and in the postwar years it was among the types used for a long time by the Royal Air Force, among other things on patrol duty overseas. Characteristic of it is the biplane layout with the radiator in the nose and open cockpits for the pilot and the gunner.

Usage tips

Apply the decals onto a smooth gloss surface, otherwise a matte whitening will show up under the film. Cut them out close to the artwork so that the carrier film is as small as possible. Dip them in water only briefly and slide the decal off the backing with a damp brush. On biplanes it pays to work with a decal softener so that the markings settle into the ribs and the transitions of the fabric covering. Once dry, and after gently washing off the remains of the adhesive, spray the model with a flat or semi-gloss clear coat, which blends the decals with the surface.
